Vibes TCG Errata Update: Here's What Changed and Why
We believe in keeping things clear and fair for every player at the table. As Vibes TCG grows, that sometimes means revisiting how cards are worded to make sure they work exactly the way we intend. That's where errata come in.
What's an Errata?
An errata is an official ruling that changes or clarifies the text on a printed card. In trading card games, this happens when a card's original wording is unclear, creates unintended interactions, or needs to be updated to reflect how the game has evolved. The printed card stays the same; you don't need a new copy, but the errata is the official, legal text you play with.
For example, in Vibes TCG, the card Myra of the Mist
(Set 3) originally read: "each player returns all Characters with vibe 2 or less from their ice to their huddle." Her errata clarifies this to add "not named Myra of the Mist" because, as it turns out, returning herself to her own huddle via her own ability created some awkward loops we didn't intend. Small fix, big clarity.
The Big One: Penguin Becomes Character (Sets 1 & 2)
If you've played Vibes since the beginning, you know the game originally used "Penguin" as the primary parent type. Almost every character in Sets 1 and 2 was a Penguin, that's just how things were when we built the game.
As Vibes grew, so did the cast. Birbs showed up. And it became clear that "Penguin" as a catch-all type was limiting in ways that didn't serve the game well. So across Sets 1 (Enter the Huddle) and 2 (Legend of the Lils), every card that previously referenced "Penguin" as a parent type has been errata'd to say "Character" instead.
This is a sweeping change that touches nearly the entire card pool from those sets. The good news is it's a consistent, clean update: anywhere you see "Penguin" in an ability from those sets referring to a general game piece (not a subtype), read it as "Character."
Penguin and Lil are now subtypes rather than parent types. So your Pudgy Penguins are still Penguins, they just live under the Character umbrella alongside Birbs, Lils, and anyone else who shows up to the huddle.
